Director, Griffith Criminology Institute

Janet Ransley is a Professor and Director of the Griffith Criminology Institute (GCI) at Griffith University. Previously, she was Head of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice and before that was director of the Key Centre for Ethics, Law, Justice and Governance. Prior to entering academia she held senior Queensland Government policy positions including with the Legislative Assembly and Criminal Justice Commission. Her research aims to understand and improve criminal justice system policy, coordination and practices, especially via the principles of harm reduction, crime prevention rather than enforcement, and improved responses for First Nations people. She has developed extensive collaborative partnerships to co-generate evidence for better practice outcomes
