Project Leader, Professor Jenny Gamble

Professor Jenny Gamble Professor of Midwifery, School of Nursing and Midwifery

Jenny Gamble is a Professor and Head of Midwifery at Griffith University. From clinical practice as a midwife to teaching and research roles, Jenny has been a driving force behind the development of a relational model of maternity care that sees women provided with a known midwife throughout pregnancy, labour and birth and following birth to 6 weeks. This model of continuity of midwifery care meets the preferences of women and delivers reduced rates of medical intervention, in tandem with better physical and mental health outcomes for both mother and child. Professor Gamble is a visionary and strategic leader dedicated to the core purpose of contributing the reform of maternity services in Australia. As Head of Midwifery, Jenny has developed and promoted a vision for Midwifery@Griffith, which, by design, builds capacity and capability to progress reform of maternity care. Specifically, this includes building a strong capable midwifery workforce, generating new research and translating existing research into maternity care, and professional leadership including collaborations with health services, the midwifery profession and consumers.
